Civil War Adventure in Marietta Georgia

Civil War Adventure in Marietta Georgia

Civil War Adventure in Marietta Georgia

Get ready to take a journey through time! Forget the dry history you learned in school. Forget the velvet ropes and glass display cases of most historical tours. Stand where the people of the 1860's stood. You'll see what they saw and feel what they felt.

Your journey begins at the Marietta Welcome Center, only 15 miles from downtown Atlanta. You'll hear the fascinating story behind the 1845 Kennesaw House hotel next door and its role in 1862's Great Locomotive Chase. Next you'll visit Marietta National Cemetery (where a Civil War Medal of Honor recipient's grave was lost until recently) and stop at Marietta Confederate Cemetery (where the very last burial was a former slave who was laid to rest by an honor guard).

You'll ride down a road used by soldiers on both sides. At Kolb's Farm you'll walk by an original 1836 log cabin as we discuss the overlooked battle that raged around it. Then it's a short drive to the climax of your visit: the moving story of the desperate fighting at Cheatham Hill.

Your historical adventure ends with a return to the Welcome Center.

Your 2 to 2.5 hour tour in and around historic Marietta, Georgia (in suburban Atlanta) takes you to places where history was made and introduces you to the people who made it. This is no boring recital of dates, facts and numbers. You'll hear true stories, including:

General John Bell Hood
The Kentucky-born Texas general who had to wear a seatbelt in the saddle, and whose unauthorized savage attack culminated around a log cabin.

The Deadly Mistake
The error that put two Confederate trains on the same track and led to the creation of a touching final resting place for thousands of men.

Colonel Dan McCook
The young lawyer from Ohio who calmly recited a poem, then led thousands of men in a desperate charge against overwhelming odds.

There's no dry history lecture, just a lively talk among friends. You'll ride in air conditioned comfort between attractions, stopping to get out and touch the past along the way.

You'll stand where history actually unfolded. When we tell you about the generals who made crucial decisions, you'll see their photos and look into their eyes. You'll hear accounts of life and death struggles in the very words of the men who fought here. You'll understand the terror they faced when you hold original Civil War minie balls, grape shot and canister rounds in your hand.

And when your journey is over, you'll never look at the past the same way ever again.

It's not a tour... it's a journey through time.
